Why I Don’t Use Our Text Number for Marketing Messages

Why I don't use our text number for marketing messages

You may have noticed something about the text messages you receive from Get Fit Together.

I don’t send many marketing texts.

No weekly “HURRY! LAST CHANCE!” messages. No random promotions every other day.

No constant marketing texts filling up your phone.

There’s actually a pretty simple reason for that.

Text messages cost me money.

Yep. Every single one.

Our texting number, 833-942-4747, runs through a business texting service. My current plan includes 500 message credits each month, so I try to use those credits where they actually help you.

Things like:

  • Booking confirmations and reminders

  • Letting you know you successfully booked or canceled an appointment

  • Important class updates

  • Class cancellation notices

  • Other information you actually need about something you signed up for

Because here’s the part most people probably never think about.

Once I go over those 500 credits, I pay an additional $0.055 per message.

That might not sound like much until you look at my contact list with more than 350 people.

If I send one random marketing message to everyone on that list, it can wipe out a huge chunk of my monthly texting plan in one shot.

Could that message result in a sale?

Absolutely.

Maybe somebody sees a Bungee Fitness special and thinks, That sounds fun. Sign me up.

That would be great.

But there’s another possibility.

You look at your phone, see yet another promotional text from another company, and immediately reply:

STOP

Because honestly…I do the same thing.

Some companies go overboard with how many texts they send. You buy something one time, and suddenly they’re texting you more often than your family.

That’s not what I want our business texting number to become.

I would much rather you see a text from Get Fit Together and think:

“I probably need to read this.”

Instead of:

“What are they trying to sell me now?”

There’s another little perk to being selective with those credits too.

If I don’t use all 500 messages during the month, the unused credits carry over to the next month. That gives me a little breathing room when I may need to send more reminders or class updates.

And yes, technically I could upgrade my texting plan and get more credits every month.

But here’s the reality of running a small business.

Every dollar counts.

There are software subscriptions, rent, utilities, equipment, insurance, maintenance, website expenses, booking systems, and about a thousand other little costs quietly nibbling away in the background.

So whenever I can make a choice that keeps expenses down without hurting the customer experience, I’m going to make it.

I’d rather save those texting credits for the messages that help you get where you need to be, know when something changes, and avoid wondering whether your booking actually went through.

And I’d rather save those extra dollars so I can keep doing the part of this business I actually love:

Helping people move, get stronger, try new things, and feel good walking through our doors.

So if you ever notice that Get Fit Together isn’t blowing up your phone with promotional texts…

Now you know why.

And hopefully, when 833-942-4747 pops up on your screen, you know it’s probably something worth checking.
